Having just celebrated our ninth wedding anniversary, my husband Chris and I have been thinking about some interesting places we know where couples can get away from the daily grind of work and other responsibilities and enjoy a bit of quiet time alone. For those lucky enough to be able to make it to the sunshine state of California for a quick getaway, Pasadena provides a great option. Situated in the thriving area of Los Angeles County, Pasadena is a medium-sized town which packs a great punch in terms of things for couples to do together.

For those couples who like strolling hand in hand in the great outdoors, perhaps one ideal place to start during a trip to Pasadena would be Arlington Garden. The garden is a great place to visit on one of California’s many sunny days and provides a peaceful and relaxing environment in which to enjoy your loved one’s company in the presence of beautiful plants and buzzing bees. An alternative option for fans of botany would be to visit the Huntington Library and Gardens which also provides a serene setting for a gentle stroll among the Japanese Garden, the Jungle Forest or, for those real romantics out there, the Rose Garden. Just be sure to resist the temptation to pick a rose from the garden, as there is a better time and a place for such gestures!

For those couples celebrating a special occasion, or even just those who like to treat each other every now and then, Pasadena is home to a number of quirky little gift shops where you can surprise your partner with a little present. These shops includes book stores, chocolate shops, soap shops, or for music lovers out there, record shops where you can search for a special record which takes you back to a memorable time in your relationship. Perhaps you can even find the record which has that special song that reminds you of when you first met!

Pasadena also has plenty of things for couples to do when evening arrives. For example you could check out a performance at the Boston Court Performing Arts Center, or a play at the Noise Within Theatre. Alternatively you might prefer to head out for dinner at one of the many restaurants in Pasadena with a wide variety of choices to meet pretty much any preference. To finish off an evening together, one great option is to check out one of the many bars that dot the city. Typical options include the Salt Lounge, T. Boyle’s Tavern, or for those who prefer wine bars, the Bodega Wine Bar or Monopole Wine, a wine store that also has great wine-tasting opportunities.

So if you and your loved one are looking for a place to get away from it all and enjoy each other’s company either strolling through romantic gardens, browsing through quaint little shops, or enjoying a performance followed by dinner and wine, Pasadena, California, could be the perfect place for you, so why not book yourself into one of the many great hotels in Pasadena?
