As 2016 comes to a close, we are beginning to think about where we’d like to book for our main holiday next year. As we’ve spent 2016 in South America and most of last year in Africa, we are planning an eagerly awaited return to Asia. Having already been to many of the common tourist destinations in east-Asia we now have our sights set on one location which has so far escaped us, the tropical islands of the Philippines.

The Philippines is a hugely varied nation comprising over 7,500 islands. Blessed with a tropical climate and a wonderfully diverse geography, tourism is understandably a major contributor to the national economy attracting visitors from around the world who are lured by the country’s beaches, mountains, and rainforests.
In order to prepare for our visit next year, we have been researching the top five things to do in the Philippines, with exciting options including beaches, city adventures, and even waterfalls. We have also been looking for possible hotels that we can stay in through online booking sites like Traveloka.com, which offers a variety of hotel choices throughout different regions in the country.
#5 – Bonifacio Global City
As fans of city living, we’ll be sure to visit Bonifacio Global City during our vacation. It is located in Taguig City, Metro Manila, around 11km to the south-east of central Manila. As well as boasting numerous bars, parks, museums, and shops, the urban area is also well served by numerous great accommodation options within easy reach. We’re particularly excited about being able to visit one of the many restaurants along the high street where pretty much every type of international cuisine conceivable is available to keep up our energy levels while we explore the area.
#4 – Boracay Island
For fans of sun, sea, and sand, Boracay Island seems like a dream come true. The island lies around 300km south of Manila in the Western Visayas region. Boasting heavenly beaches, including the famous 4km long White Beach, Boracay sounds like just the type of place to head to in search of some well-deserved rest and recuperation. We already can’t wait to dust off our bathing suits and slap on the sun cream!
#3 – Mayon Volcano
Situated on the island of Luzon, Mayon volcano is an almost perfectly conical volcano rising to an impressive 2,463m. The active volcano lies within the Mayon Volcano Natural Park which was designated in 2000 and now draws a significant number of tourists making the area well serviced for visitors.
#2 – Cambugahay Falls
Being big fans of waterfalls, the Cambugahay Falls seem like a great option for when a spot of relaxation is required. Located on Siquijor Island, the falls aren’t enormous but are nonetheless beautifully designed by mother nature, comprising multiple tiers. To make things even more tempting, it is possible to take a dip in the surrounding pools. What better way to cool down if the tropical climate becomes a little too much.
#1 – Chocolate Hills
The chocolate hills of Bohol province appear a must-visit destination to us. Estimates of the number of hills making up this geological formation vary, from around 1,250 at the bottom end of the range up to almost 1,800, depending on how the area is defined. The hills are considered a National Geological Monument and are a highly popular tourist destination. As such, the area caters well to visitors, including through resort-style accommodation for those who wish to enjoy the area at a leisurely pace. There is also an observation deck in the area so it seems taking a decent quality camera is a must.
As you can see, the Philippines has a huge range of diverse options for tourists. Is it any wonder that the collection of islands making up this beautiful nation is top of our travel list for 2017?

I wish I could go out more. You see, the only comfort I get from working 9-5 is the fact that there are great workspaces around. Free lancing is quite hard. Looking for friends! Looking for people to hang out with! Basically the new guy in town.
