The year 2014 and Brazil will only mean one thing to most people – The World Cup. All eyes will be focused firmly on Brazil in June and July as the festival of football kicks off. However, there is a huge amount happening in Brazil in 2014 other than the football. So much so in fact, that some experts have speculated that productivity in Brazil could suffer during 2014.

The first date to note is February 28 – March 4. For these few days, Brazilian life will be dominated by the Carnival, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro and elsewhere across the country. This is the king of all carnivals and attracts around half a million foreign visitors each year. This is party time like nothing else and it is worth the trip simply to see the floats and enjoy the dancing. The country is bound to come to a standstill, so join the rest of Brazil and have fun!

If you want a taste of football action prior to the World Cup itself, then visit Rio de Janeiro during March 27 – April 5 for the unique Street Child World Cup. The event raises awareness of the rights of children and showcases the exceptional football talents of children from nineteen countries from almost every continent. This is a powerful event for all those who believe in global change through sport.

If you like the high-life and a bit of style, then make sure you get to Sao Paulo from March 31 – April 4 for Sao Paulo Fashion Week. This is not only a highlight of the Brazilian calendar but also the fifth largest fashion week in the world, eclipsed only by New York, London, Paris and Milan. It is an opportunity to check out cutting edge style and you will certainly learn that Brazilian fashion is about a whole lot more than supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

As we approach the summer, this is certainly the time to get ready for the World Cup itself, so check out the latest news at and settle down for the highlight of the sporting calendar. However, the sporting action doesn’t end with the World Cup final in July. If you like high-speed, high-risk sporting fun, then check out the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series final from October 18 – 19.
