The city of Costa Mesa, CA is famous for its beautiful beaches and its proximity to Disneyland, but most people don’t know that it is also a dream location for adventure enthusiasts. There are not only great hotels in Costa Mesa, but it also offers all kinds of action packed activities like rock climbing, diving, stand-up paddling, hiking, and even learning how to fly an aeroplane.

Rock Climbing

The indoor climbing facility Rockreation offers 12,000 square feet of ultimate rock climbing fun. Different walls for all levels of experience offer something for everybody, seven days a week.

Learning to Fly

Have you ever wanted to fly? At Costa Mesa’s Royal Aviation you can learn how to fly a plane through private lessons. The school has been operating since 1976 and the instructors have plenty of experience. It doesn’t get more exciting than flying your own plane, does it?

Aquatic Adventures

If flying your own plane is a bit much then perhaps you could consider going parasailing instead. Being either 800 or 1200 feet up in the sky, you will get spectacular views of Newport Beach.

Being located by the seaside, Costa Mesa also offers plenty of other water-based activities. The latest craze is stand up paddleboarding, where you can stand on a board and navigate your way around the water with a paddle, all while standing up.

If balancing on a paddle board is not your thing you could rent a hydrobike instead which enables you to cruise around the waters at a leisurely 4-10 miles per hour. Kayaks rentals are also widely available if you prefer a little more exercise.

For the ultimate water adventure you can also discover Costa Mesa’s underwater world by signing up for a PADI Open Water Diver Course. A course is usually staggered over two weekends, and usually you can even choose to dive with an underwater scooter.

Martial Arts Training

If you have always wanted to learn martial arts then you don’t need to go any further than the Orange County Shaolin Temple Cultural Center which offers Chinese martial arts classes like tai chi, self-defence, mediation, and even Chinese language classes. Classes are for beginners and advanced students alike and are taught by Master Shi Yan Qing.

Sky High Sports

If you want to do something really fun then you could consider going to Sky High Sports which has a hall that has trampolines covering both floors and walls, meaning wherever you jump you will safely bounce off again.

Enjoy the Outdoors

If you like the outdoors but are not too keen on exercising you could rent a Segway and cruise along Newport Beach past the historic sites of the Balboa Peninsula. Alternatively you could also rent a car and drive up and down the Pacific coastal highway. If you leave early enough you will be able to witness the stunning sunrise over the Pacific ocean.

As you can see there are plenty of action-packed things to do in Costa Mesa. Which activity would you like to do?

3 Thoughts on “Action Packed Things to Do in Costa Mesa

  1. Tammy and Chris as I don’t have a taste for extreme stuff – or even half extreme stuff 😉 – I’d be hiking like mad in a place like Costa Mesa. From the beauty to my absolute love of walking and hiking I’d see a perfect match…although the aquatic side of things sounds intriguing as heck too. Now you have me thinking lol…

Thanks for the neat little breakdown here and have a fun weekend!
