One of my fondest memories growing up was trips to the beach with my parents. In fact, one of my earliest memories is playing “who can see the sea first” from our battered old 1980s car which seemed to just barely get us to the coast each time. Having nieces and nephews, I know how fun a family trip to the beach still is, and for those lucky enough to find themselves in America’s South Carolina state, one of the best vacation options available is a trip to Myrtle Beach.

There are many family-friendly hotels in Myrtle Beach available, and families also have a great range of activities to keep children (and adults!) of all ages thoroughly occupied. One obvious starting point to help with orientation when you arrive is to take a gentle stroll down the famous Grand Strand beach. As well as giving you a chance to dip your toes into the ocean for the first time, there is also a great variety of little shops around the beach area, which is a great place to look for gifts for loved ones back home who you left behind. There is also a good selection of restaurants along the way, so you can stop and satisfy your appetites at any number of great little eateries.

Once you’ve spent some time getting your bearings and enjoying the relaxing feel of the sand beneath your toes, you might feel the urge for something a little more adventurous. One option would be heading to Ash Myrtle Beach ATV Tours, which is sure to provide an adrenalin-packed time, flying around specially designed race courses on your All Terrain Vehicle. Just be careful not to get too competitive which, having two older brothers, I know can be a serious risk!

For those families looking for something a bit calmer, the Family Kingdom Amusement Park is right in the centre of town and is easily accessible. The park has dozens of rides for all ages, so it’s great for young children, teenagers, or even those adults who haven’t quite grown up completely. Yes, I’m referring to my husband.

After an afternoon spent at the amusements, you might wish to look for something a little more relaxing to finish off the day. In which case maybe hiring a boat would be a nice way to spend some quality time together, bobbing around on the ocean’s waves. Or for those still craving a bit of a thrill, take things to the next level and hire a jet ski so you can really pick up some speed and feel like James Bond in front of your children.

So for those of you looking for a family break with sun, sea, and some great attractions to keep children of all ages occupied, look no further than Myrtle Beach. Just be sure to keep your eyes on the horizon during the drive there, as seeing the sea first is clearly a competition everyone in the family wants to win!
